Future Relocation

Hey guys!

Weird question but how happy are you with where you live? I'm going to be a Senior this year and I'm beginning to research places to potentially settle to after I graduate. My situation is fine for now, but, as a 26 year old who currently lives with his parents to save some cash, that will need to change.

How did you get where you are? What are your likes and dislikes about your hometown? Would you recommend it as a good place to relocate to?

If it helps here's a little background info about me: I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I'm a history major interested in both modern U.S. and German history. I am extremely relaxed and laid back and follow the cliche live and let live. I am irreligious but am open and accepting of believers of all faiths, so long as they don't preach and try to convert me to their beliefs. Politically I lean Libertarian although I'm not hardcore into politics. I have an enormous interest in Existential/Absurdist philosophy, which I fell for after reading The Stranger in middle school. Rereading this makes me sound like a hipster but I promise I'm not. As far as climate I am used to harsh winters, even though I prefer the heat to the cold.

I don't mean to piss anyone off with my political/religious beliefs so I apologize in advance. I am really looking for some input and advice. I am the most indecisive person I know so any help would be greatly appreciated. With people from across the country in the league I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to get some help.

I am also sorry to all, especially Jim, who is in three other leagues with me, for reposting this in them all.

Sorry, I didn't notice this topic earlier. I do live in Pensacola and am happy to be here. The advice I would give you is to go where the job is at. Apply to different cities you wouldn't mind living. I grew up in a smallish town between Tampa (love) and Orlando (hate) but my mother lived in Cleveland so I've experience little towns, big cities, hot and cold weather. Right after college I took a job in Quincy, IL, two hours north of St. Louis. I didn't mind the weather and really liked the town. I just knew I wanted to start making my way back toward Florida. After a year in Quincy I found a job in Pensacola. If you can stick out the job for a year, look at it as a way to travel and see the country.

Some of the factors I thought about when deciding where to live: state income tax, a metropolitan area near by, baseball team near by (MLB or MiLB), housing prices, age demographics of the city. I applied to jobs in Tampa, Pensacola, Houston, St. Louis, Nashville, and Virginia Beach.

I would follow what Thomas said and "go where the job takes you". I live in Greenville, SC which is a smaller city but is quickly on the rise. I would recommend it for anyone, as we have a great downtown, all four seasons each year, close to mountains, beaches and big cities without the complete hustle and bustle of a major city.

I grew up in Charlotte, NC so my exposure of the country is limited. I have been to many places, but not long enough to be an expert on any. I hear great things about Austin, TX, loved Chicago in the summer and have always been intrigued by Seattle. I guess my point is, don't limit your search area.
