2021 FanTrax payment

I have no problem paying the fee and I have been pretty diligent about getting it done early in the past, but this league has become a concern to me. We have four or five owners who have not been on the board since April 1st and some of those have been away much longer than that. LaLoosh has not been on since sometime in February. Is he still with us?

Another issue is with the way we handle this payment anyway. Fantrax requires a 10% fee for each owner to pay their share. We wind up paying an extra $10 as a league. It would make a lot more sense for one person to pay the full fee and have the rest of us pay that person. I think I volunteered to do that in the past, but with the health of the league up in the air in many ways, we likely need to establish a direction first before we get into all of that.

I know I have frustrated some people here when I have questioned whether this is a healthy league. It's always been said that things would get done when they needed to get done and everything would eventually fall into place, etc. This season seems to have seen the league slide a bit further downhill. People have been absent from the board for weeks at a time. We cobbled things together at beyond the last minute. We have a number of owners who have been here a long time who are largely absentee owners. They show up to make a couple of picks in drafts, they get a few free agents and they might set their weekly lineup, but they don't contribute much to the league being vibrant, fun and interesting. Free agency is a good example. There have been a lot of guys who can help a lot of our teams who have gone for the minimum since the season started. Numerous owners have $15-20M or more in cap space (if I remember correctly from when I last checked), yet didn't participate much in off season free agency. The same couple of teams failed to make picks in the MLFAD as always. There hasn't been a trade since the end of January in the league that didn't involve either me or Tampa. We're stagnant and have been for a couple of seasons. Leagues can continue to exist like this, but it's hard for them to flourish and eventually that existence just feeds into a slow death.

I do think some of the new owners, if given a chance and with some cooperation from our longer tenured guys, could help us become a better league. It won't be long, though, until they become frustrated with the lack of effort and activity.

Having said all of that, if we don't decide to just give up, I'll pay whatever is the remaining balance by Sunday evening so we can all reset our lineups. Anyone else who hasn't paid by then can send me their share if they choose to do so. PM me for my address or PayPal info or whatever.

I don't mean any offense in any of this. I do think it's accurate, though. I've been here for many years. There was some enthusiasm when we did kind of reboot back in maybe 2015, but, over time, we've begun to lose some of that enthusiasm and we started a steady slide to doing a little less, then just enough to get by and now, maybe even less than that. I want this league to be active and competitive and fun. It's barely one out of three right now (it's fun for me to draft and trade and build a team, but not so much when a lot of others aren't committed to doing the same).

BBB, I would just pay your amount. Since it's gotten to this point I think we need to see who is committed. I would suggest other owners not to pay for other owners. I say this with all due respect but if you can't $5.50 on Fantrax you shouldn't be in the league. It's the cost of a latte or a cheese burger. The financial commitment is so small it's ridiculous the league was suspended.

When you try to go to the league home page, there is an option to pay the whole amount owed or to pay yours (and others) shares. If you choose the yours and others, you can add as many of the missing payments to yours as you want. I have a note in to Jeremy about how we want to handle this. I'd be happy to pay as much as we need to pay and anyone who wants to help can do so, but it doesn't make a lot of sense, as Ohio says, if we have so many guys who are not even engaged enough to do that. When I hear back from him, we can decide how we want to proceed.

Scott did you get a response from Jeremy? It is not like there are many inactive teams here. It is true that the active trading teams is low compared to other league and I agree some of the owners that have been around for a long time always seem to disappear for long stretches but for the most part everyone is still around. Not sure why half the teams never paid on time. Looking at the activity on this board, 15 of the 20 teams have been online in the last week or so and other than Mace in early March the other 4 were all were here around the start of the season. I'm pretty sure that Jeremy replaced Laloosh with Tampa Bay a couple months ago. I know I sent him a good recommendation for an owner and was told the spot had just been filled at the time.

I understand the sentiment that we should force those who haven't paid to pay, but it is clear that at least several teams will not be paid in a timely manner. Currently we have 10 paid and 10 unpaid. This is probably going to take awhile.

If the league will go forward this week someone or a group will need to pay. Ideally that person would have a way to receive electronic reimbursements. Ideally this won't be Jeremy because I think he has had to pick up the tab other years. Then I propose we lock the ability of the unpaid owners to change their lineups in fantrax and refuse their FA acquisitions and trades on proboards until reimbursement is made. If that doesn't fix the owners then boot them.

It is a fun league and I appreciate all Jeremy and Motor City do. I am not trying to step on toes or tell the commissioners what to do. This is just a suggestion after some thought. The only other option I can think of is to sit out this week and see if it gets better. Maybe people will log in to set their lineups today and see it is locked down and pay.
