We’re about to begin a new chapter here at Perfect Game. First, I want to make sure to thank Jeremy for all of the work he has done to get the league to where we are today. Over ten+ seasons, Jeremy has kept things going here and I’m hoping to pick up the reins and move us forward.
I don’t want to get too detailed here as there is a lot to do and no one has all of the answers as to the right way to do it all. I do want to outline some first steps I’d like to take, however.
- I will be working on a draft league timeline that we can follow each season that lets us all know exactly what will happen and when each season. I will use our current structure as a guide and add some thoughts from other leagues in which I play. It will be a draft because I hope everyone will take a look and contribute to the discussion on it.
- I will be rewriting the rules that appear on our rules page to reflect the way we actually play right now. The league timeline will include time to discuss rules thoughts each off season. I would hope that some of you would be thinking about some changes you might want, though I’m hoping to not make drastic changes for 2023 unless we have 20 solid, active owners involved in the discussion.
- I will be working to transfer much of our league data to google sheets. I would like to have information on team rosters, drafts and free agency there by the time we are ready to get started for 2023. This will give us a single place where we can get the answers to most of our roster questions and will allow for easier monitoring of things like players drafted not in Fantrax and minor league roster limits, among other things. Some of you play in a league with me where google sheets are used for record keeping. Please don’t expect that level of efficiency. I’m not the guys who have run that league. They have been saints when it comes to the level of detail they keep track of. I’m no expert on sheets either so I’ll just basically bull my way through something we can use and share.
I hope to have the rules and the timeline done before the end of the season so that everyone can get a look and make their comments.
I also need something from all of you. We need 20 guys who are willing to commit to the league. We are one short of 20 owners right now, but we have likely been much shorter than that as far as guys being active. The lack of activity manifests itself in many ways. We are seeing the latest example in our FYPD draft. Off season free agency and, worse, in season free agency are other areas where that lack of activity impacts the competitiveness of the league. I’m asking all of you to examine how you are willing to approach this league. We can’t have owners disappearing for weeks or months at a time. There have been some good players taken in in season free agency while some of you have had guys on your active roster who haven’t played since April. We need you to do better.
Between the end of the regular season and October 15th, we’ll have a check in thread to see who plans to return to the league. I want you all to sign in for that, but I don’t want you to sign in if you are not prepared to participate in all aspects of the league.
I also need you to be thinking of guys you play with in other leagues who would be good fits here. We have a current opening. We usually have several openings every season. I want to build a waiting list of good candidates that we can plug in when we need them. I play in a lot of leagues, but have brought in several guys over the last couple of seasons so I'm close to tapped out.
I know that some of you see this as the bottom league on your list the last couple of seasons. I'm hoping we can change that. If we are all on board, it shouldn't take that long. Thanks in advance for your help and commitment.
