We need to decide how we want to measure this. Do we want the limit to apply all of the time or just make sure teams are in compliance once (or twice or whatever) per season?

I thought FanTrax limited you to 250 total (40 active and 210 MiLB). Is that not the case?

Between here and the original rules post there have been a few comments on this, all calling for some form of enforcement of the 250 player limit. This is one where we need to have some kind of policy in place right away.
We're going to enforce the 250 player limit on Jan 15th each season when rosters need to be set. Because of drafts and possible trades, I'm going to set the limit on Fantrax at 300 during the season. That way, you can make your picks and possibly even trade for a few extra and still be ok until the next Jan 15th. If you are at 300 and still have picks that you can't or don't want to trade you'll need to cut someone from your minors system before the new pick can be added.
You'll need to make the necessary cuts by Jan 15th as I will set the limit at 250 then to get everyone legal, then I'll expand to accommodate the MLFAD.
If we want to continue to discuss this for next season, feel free.

We can go that way next season if that's what everyone wants to do. For this season, we have allowed rosters to get pretty big in the last season or so. It will be a struggle for teams that have been diligent about drafting to get to 250 anyway. Then, there are 20 rounds of the MLFAD, so essentially you have to get down to 230 if you want to participate fully. That's not really reasonable or fair to guys who have been working at their teams.
This way, you get another year to evaluate your players before cutting to get back to 250 next season.
Also, this is actually less work. If we are at 250 total all of the time, I have to hound guys to drop someone to add their draft picks. With the rules as amended I don't have to do that nearly as often. I'm not going to deny guys picks. That's the last thing the league needs.
