Owners need to have an open 40 man roster spot for any players won in free agency. While the move to clear a spot, if necessary, does not to be instantaneous, there is no grace period either. The 48 hour contract clock is only that. The player is part of your 40 man as soon as you win a bid.
This may not seem like a big deal, but there can be at least a bit of an unfair advantage, especially during the early days of spring training when player news comes out every day. We've already had this come into play.
If you are close to winning a bid, please make room for the player as not everyone is on all of the time.
With our liberal demotion policy of y2y1 and 2 players, this should be easy to manage.

What it mostly means is that, while I'm not looking to create problems, guys added in free agency need to have a 40 man spot open to slide into. Non-instantaneous means I'm not going to void your bid if you don't have an opening at the moment an auction closes. No grace period means I'm not going to set a specific period that you have to make the move-because there should be an opening when you win the bid.
I realize that we have not been vigilant about this in the past so I'm willing to work with folks in the transition period.
Reading on further, I'm asking if you are close to winning a bid, please make room. I know no one lives on here 24/7, but if you have an active bid, you should be keeping an eye on it.
In summary; ideally, you should have a spot open when you win a player. If you don't, you should have an idea of the demotion you want to make and be ready to make it ASAP after your guy's auction expires.
